Styptic Powder for the Coop

One of our little lifesavers here at Happy Days Farm is Styptic Powder! We keep it on hand at the coop to deal with any injuries (ours or the chickens), that involve blood. Blood can lead to a frenzy in chickens, and a small wound can be picked very quickly to become life threatening! This styptic powder, once placed on the wound will dry it up almost immediately, and the good news is that it is very cheap and easily available at a drugstore.

While we do our best to keep our chickens, guineas, bunnies, and ourselves from being injured by looking for broken limbs, stray chicken wire, sharp edges, etc., sometimes injuries do happen. Having this on hand, and not having to run to the store, or back to the house is a great way to keep a level head when these little emergencies happen!
