Traveling with your Rabbit
Sugar loves to go for rides in the car.
He is a great little travel buddy. He goes to the office with me sometimes, but
has actually traveled as far as a 14 hour trip. He does great in the car, and I always have his vest, leash, and carrier. I also travel with my rabbit first aid kit, fresh hay, water, pellets, litter, etc.
Believe me, if you need something for your rabbit while out of town, you don’t want to have to try to locate a rabbit specific item in a strange city.
Just like any other pet, I don’t leave him locked in the car. This little carrier, allows me to carry him in to rest areas, etc, as I stop on the road.
There is also another little trick I have recently learned for places where pets aren’t exactly welcome. My car has an automatic start feature. I can get out of the car, lock it, and use the auto-start. When the car starts, the air-conditioner is running inside the locked car. This feature allows the car to run for ten minutes before cutting off. I make sure I am always back before it has a chance to cut off.
As you can see, he is quite used to riding, and is very calm and peaceful in the car.
I always carry his little ice pack to make sure he stays cool enough. He is actually on it here.
I setup his cage in the backseat. He has all his food, water bottle, and litter box.
I also put a dish of chamomile flowers in the cage for him to munch on while we ride.
However, his favorite thing to do, is ride on my lap. I have his favorite lamb
pillow that he likes to sit on, and he munches on his grass, naps, and watches traffic.
So, when you get ready to travel or go on vacations, consider taking your rabbit with you!
If they are anything like Sugar, they will love it!
